Too low to get on an alignment rack?

My Cavalier is lowered about 1-1.5 inches. If you're asking " Are you an idiot? How the hell do you not know how much your car is lowered by?" A) Yes. and B): It's because I wasn't the one who lowered it. The previous owner lowered it, and I didn't get the car from him, I got it from a dealer he traded it into.

Anyways a while ago I had some tires mounted on rims, and I told my mechanic to align the car also. He said that the car was too low to get on the alignment rack, so he didn't align it. Fair enough I guess.

I took the car to another place for alignment and when I came for the car, they themselves said also that the car was too low to be put on an alignment rack. What made this confusing was that about 3 years ago, they had aligned the car themselves.

It (of course) is possible that they didn't align it that time, they just "said" they did, but I don't think that was the case. The car was really poorly aligned when I took it in previosuly. The steering wheel was clearly off centre and it ate tires like a drifter. After the alignment the wheel was a lot more centred and tire wear slowed way down, so I assume they actually did it.

Maybe everyone's been upgrading their alignment racks? Where does one get low cars aligned?

Have a low N slow car for reading.

1.5" too low? Damn son, find another shop. My Golf Mk2 was lowered 4.5" and I still got it aligned.

Aight, I'll keep trying! Funny thing is it's been aligned 2x before actually.

That sounds like BS to me, but I'm not sure why they would tell you that... I just googled Cavaliers with 2" drops and they're still not super low. I've seen Vipers and other low cars with front splitters up on racks, if they can't do your car, how do they get anything on there? Can you ask to see their setup?

Cavaliers without drops are like monster trucks. Some driveways aside, I never scrape on speed bumps and the like, and can do most (99/100) parking garages.

I kept trying to ask them how this could be, but they mostly seemed concerned with making me go away. They were pretty busy and it was 20 mins before closing time. I won't be back.

I was thinking along the same lines though I was like "If my car is too low then how do lambo's get aligned??" LOL. I will keep trying I guess.

It really depends on the shops rack. I think the one at my dad's shop might even be too harsh of an incline angle to get your car on to, but 99% of stock cars have zero issue getting on it.

You'll have to keep shopping..

Could I just give them some short pieces of 2x4's to help them get it up there?
